NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) is a leading institution in Portugal for its expertise in data science. It is part of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, ranked in the top 9 in Europe by QS World University Rankings 2021 for universities under 50 years old. Founded in 1989, NOVA IMS has about 3,700 students enrolled in 10-degree programs, four of which rank among the top four in the world according to the Eduniversal Best Masters Ranking 2023. As the research center of NOVA IMS, MagIC comprises 80 senior and junior professors and researchers, including individuals recognized on Stanford University's top 2% and top 1% Scientists List for 2023. Our mission is to advance the fields of Information Management and Data Science, inspiring the next generation of researchers. Our specialization lies in studying information and its interaction with humans and organizations. We are committed to using information management and data science to improve productivity and sustainability through informed, fact-based decision-making while promoting data-driven decision-making tools and methods. Over the past five years, we have secured over 30 R&I projects through national and international competitive programs such as Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, ERASMUS+, and Technical Support Instrument, totaling €8.5M. Our commitment to the transfer of knowledge is evident through the availability of 80% of our MagIC publications on Open Access in our institutional repository.
Port and Douro Wines Institute (IVDP) upholds the control of the quality and quantity of Port and Douro wines, regulating production, protecting and defending the Douro and Port designations of origin and the Douro geographic indication worldwide. The responsibilities and competences of IVDP are in line with this project namely: Propose strategic guidance and implement wine policy for the Douro Demarcated Region (RDD), ensuring knowledge of the entire sector and the structure of production and trade; Promote the convergence of the interests of production and commerce in defence of the general interest of the RDD, disciplining, controlling and supervising the production and marketing of wines produced in the RDD, ensuring the file of vineyard plots in this region, controlling the census of winegrowers, carrying out appropriate checks for this purpose and determining the necessary corrections; Control, promote and defend the designations of origin and geographical indication of the RDD; Instruct administrative offense proceedings and apply to infractions detected, by its services or by other entities, the sanctions for which it has jurisdiction; Encourage the adoption of best practices in the field of winemaking and technological development; Promote and implement a policy for treating by products resulting from wine production in the RDD, safeguarding the principles of economic and environmental sustainability.
