The AIGODS project has reached an important milestone in its vineyard mapping branch, reflecting sustained progress in one of the project’s core technical objectives. Working within the highly complex landscape of the Douro Demarcated Region (DDR), the team has been advancing an image-based workflow designed to support the identification and interpretation of vineyard areas under particularly demanding territorial conditions.
This progress is especially relevant in a region marked by steep slopes, terraced structures, fragmented parcels, and visually heterogeneous surfaces, where vineyard mapping remains a significant technical challenge. At this stage, the work has already shown encouraging signs of institutional relevance, particularly in its potential to support cadastral interpretation and more targeted territorial review within the broader regulatory context of the IVDP.
While the current results represent a meaningful step forward, this research line is still being consolidated, and the corresponding scientific article is now being prepared for submission. For that reason, further technical details will be shared in due course. Even so, the present milestone confirms that AIGODS is continuing to strengthen its mapping capacity in a direction that is both scientifically rigorous and operationally meaningful for the DDR context.
