On 31 January 2026, the AI GODS project completed its main execution cycle, marking the conclusion of an intensive period of technical development, scientific dissemination, institutional exchange, and international outreach. Over the preceding months, the project advanced its two central research lines, strengthened its scientific basis through publication and conference participation, and reinforced its institutional relevance through direct alignment with the needs of the Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto (IVDP). That moment therefore marked an important transition point in the project, not as a final administrative closure, but as the end of its principal implementation phase. The period that now begins will be dedicated to final consolidation. In the coming weeks, the team will prepare the Final Report, organise the project’s main technical materials, and complete the remaining adjustments required for formal submission and evaluation on 31 March 2026. This closing stage will be especially important because it will bring together the different outputs produced during the project into a coherent final structure, ensuring that the strongest and most relevant results are documented with the level of rigour required for institutional transfer and future continuity. From the outset, AI GODS was conceived to respond to two practical needs in the Douro Demarcated Region (DDR): more reliable vineyard identification for cadastral and regulatory support, and earlier yield estimation for planning and decision support. As the project now enters its final reporting phase, these objectives remain at the centre of the work being consolidated. The aim is not simply to close a funded activity, but to ensure that the knowledge, methods, and outputs developed during the project are prepared in a form capable of supporting later use, interpretation, and transfer within the institutional context of IVDP. In that sense, this stage should be understood as one of completion and preparation rather than a purely formal endpoint. The core work of AI GODS has now been carried out, and the weeks ahead will focus on translating that work into its final documented form.
