"Data with Purpose": Unveiling the AIGODS Visual Identity

Following the encouraging peer-review outcome recently received by its systematic review manuscript, the AIGODS project has now reached a new stage of communication maturity with the unveiling of its official visual identity. More than a graphic mark, this identity was conceived as a strategic element within the project’s broader communication architecture, helping ensure that its different outputs, audiences, and dissemination settings remain visibly connected through a coherent and recognisable public presence. In a project that operates across science, technology, institutions, and society, such consistency is not secondary. It is an important part of how credibility, readability, and memorability are built over time.

The development of this identity was intentionally aligned with the institutional context of NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), the lead research institution of AIGODS. This decision reflects more than aesthetic preference. It places the project within an academic environment strongly associated with information management, data science, artificial intelligence, and applied societal impact. In particular, the identity mirrors the school’s current “Data Visionaries” framework and its wider “Data with Purpose” ethos, making it both conceptually coherent and strategically appropriate for a project centred on transforming complex geospatial data into meaningful operational knowledge for viticulture.

At the centre of the visual system is a pixelated grape cluster, which immediately anchors the identity in the vineyard domain while also evoking the digital and image-based logic through which AIGODS observes and interprets the territory. This is complemented by a satellite motif that reinforces the project’s connection with Earth Observation and the logic of continuous monitoring embedded in its very name. Together, these elements translate the project’s technical scope into a single visual language capable of expressing viticulture, remote sensing, geospatial intelligence, and analytical decision support with unusual clarity. Rather than functioning as a mere label, the identity acts as a visual interpretation of the project itself.

Its value is therefore practical as well as symbolic. The AIGODS visual identity strengthens continuity across the website, presentations, technical and stakeholder-oriented materials, and other public-facing communication contexts where immediate recognition matters. By giving the project a stronger and more unified presence, it helps connect individual outputs to a wider research agenda and reinforces the visibility of AIGODS as a rigorous and distinctive contribution to intelligent viticulture in the Douro Demarcated Region.
